Hee : Thank you for your interview even though are busy.

Kanda : No problem, thank you for giving me this chance.

Hee : Can you introduce yourself briefly?

Kanda : Yes! I’m Kanda Rina and I’m from Yamakuchi in Japan, which is a little far away. I have been working at Soka University for six years now. I am also a graduate of the faculty of literature in Soka University, and I started working in the international department after graduation.

Hee : Oh! I am also from the same faculty! (Laugh)

Kanda : That's right.(laugh) I've been working in the international department since I started working, so it has been six years.

Hee : That's amazing! Then can you briefly introduce what kind of work you do in the international department?

Kanda : Soka University's Department of International Studies is divided into two teams: the first team that manages students for their studies abroad and the second team that accepts students from abroad, about six people for dispatch, about 11 people for general management of international students, and about 20 people for department heads and managers. We work together as a department related to international exchange.

Hee : I see! I've been to the international department several times, but haven't heard such detailed information! It's very fresh!

Kanda : Is that so? (Laugh)

Hee : That's right! (Laugh) Also, can you introduce me if there is anything you are grateful for while working at the International department?

Kanda : Regardless of this international department, I am very grateful that I can feel the important growth in employee of Soka University, short-term university students, and international students. And among them, I think it is the most grateful part that I can feel the mission and possibility of Soka University students and international students because it is a department that can support students from other countries and create environments to study hard for various programs when entering and graduating from Soka University.

Hee : Wow! Thank you for your answer! It makes me want to work in the

international department.(laugh)

Kanda: Thank you! (laugh)

Hee: The next question is about the goals that the international department is currently setting for international students!

Kanda: Currently, Soka University has been chosen as the "Super Global University," so first of all, other than goals such as the number of international students and the number of international exchanges, it provides services and education that make everyone think it's a good thing to come to Soka University. In addition, the international department has a vision of making a fan of Soka University among the world, so the number is important, but it is also trying to make it a university life that is the basis of its own life so that international students can come to Soka University among various choices in the world.

Hee : Wow... As one of the international students in the Department of International Studies, I am very grateful for the FSA, International Student Cafe, and dormitory, but most of all, I am happy to hear about such a big goal!

Hee : The next question may be a little interesting or emotional, but when is the hardest time for international students in a year?

Kanda:I see. (laugh) I think it's natural that it's always hard to achieve the goals I mentioned earlier, but especially when it comes to accepting international students, the time to welcome new students is the busiest. If you enter in spring, you will need support at the end of March, and if you enter in fall, you will go to the airport in early September to prepare guidance for international students, and both international and Japanese students will need support the most when they start their new lives here in Japan!

Hee:It sounds so tiring…

Kanda : And while there are graduation ceremonies in March, entrance ceremonies in April, and big events at Soka University, accepting international students at Soka University is adding to the busyness, but it's something that I couldn't do for two years, so I'm very grateful for it!

Hee : Well, especially busy at that time!

Kanda : Yes. As expected, international students have two entrance and graduation ceremonies a year, so those are the busiest times of the year! And Sodaisai's period, the activities of International Student Cafe, and I think this period is also an important period

Hee : That's right... We were able to celebrate during Sodaisai thanks to the support of international students! Thank you so much!

Kanda : No, it's all thanks to the international students.

Hee : I'm always thankful! International students department is providing various support for international students at Soka University, but what kind of thing are you most happy about?

Kanda : Anyway, I want to challenge a variety of things, but the first thing I can think of is, "There's an international department no matter what." Studying abroad is the most disturbing thing about being away from your family, but I don't want everyone to be alone from the frustration from adapting to a new place.

Hee : I see! That's why I always felt warm when I went to the international department!

Kanda : (laugh) We have to be warm and cheerful every day to give you all that this feeling of our staff are your allies. (laugh) We want to be the ones that come to mind when something happens.

Hee : You are already that kind of presence. (laughs)

Kanda : No no. (laugh) I think I'm still immature and lacking a lot, but I just want to be able to think that there's always an international department for each person. I definitely think that everyone in the international department feels the same way.

Hee : This is an international department that I am always very grateful for (laugh) Thank you so much for forcing me to answer the interviews! This is the end of the interview! Thank you for your support this year!

Kanda : Thank you.
